Closure of clinic causes pain to patients

Patients have been inconvenienced due to the closure of the pain killing clinic of the Neurology Unit at
the National Hospital.

Patients say that the clinic has not been functioning for a period of three years.

Patients complain that they have to spend large amounts of money to receive treatment as a result.

This clinic, the only one of its kind that has been functioning in a government hospital in the country.

The Government Medical Officers' Association says that the authorities need to pay their direct attention on this issue.

Assistant Secretary of the Association, Dr, Nalin Ariyaratne said that such occurrences can
threaten the fulfillment of health requirements of the public.

When this issue was forwarded to the acting Director of the National Hospital, Dr. Sujatha Senaratne, she told Newsfirst that the specialist doctor in charge of the clinic has left the government service.

She stated that the absence of a suitable doctor to handle the activities of the clinic is the reason
behind the closure of the clinic.

Dr. Sujatha Senaratne said the clinic will commence once the hospital gets a doctor who is  qualified on
the subject.
