After put into bat first by the Lankans, Australians failed to get into their usual aggressive style of playing as Lankan bowlers took the much needed regular intervals.
Australian skipper Michael Clark added crucial 57 runs to strength the Australian innings but it was all about Lankans bowling and fielding in the first half of the game.
Lasith Malinga (2/28), Nuwan Kulasekara (2/39), Angelo Mathews (2/37), Dhammika Prasad (2/55) and Sachithra Senanayake (2/45) bagged two wickets each to do their job perfectly for the team.
However, when Lankans commenced their reply it was a similar story, as Australian bowlers were also doing what they were supposed to do perfectly. Hitting the perfect spots they made things hard for the visitors in the middle and managed to take wickets in regular intervals.
After losing the opener Tharanga for just 11 runs Sangakkara (22) and Dilshan (40) managed to add a 50 runs partnership but Sangakkara had to leave soon after an unfortunate run out resulted after a miss-communication between the two players.
Dilshan too failed to deliver what was required and fell for 40 runs while young player Dinesh Chandimal too fell for 37 runs leaving Lankans run chase in misery.
Lankans lost all their top order batsmen for 129 runs leaving Angelo Mathews alone on the crease to finish the game with the tail-enders.
Mathews, 64 , kept his cool till the last over and managed to minimize the gap for just five runs and fell in the fifth ball of the final over as the last wicket of the Lankans.

Xavier Doherty (2/24) was the three bowlers who helped them to secure this game.
Australia won the game by five runs and crucial innings by the Kangaroo skipper made him the player of the match.
